Growing attractiveness


1. A truly welcoming place for international business
According to the Paris Ile de France Capitale Economique/Ernst and Young “2006 Report on International Operations in Europe’s 15 Most Attractive Cities”, covering 2002-2006, Paris and London remain at the forefront with nearly half the market share, far ahead of other European cities.
The Paris Region is Europe’s second best business city due to its unique industrial and tertiary role within Europe. It is the only city with support platforms for both tertiary activities and industrial operations.
 
2. Competitive setup costs and prices
According to KPMG’s “Competitive Alternatives” study, in 2006 France pulled ahead of other European countries, enjoying a competitive advantage of 4.4% over the United States as well (9.7% for R&D projects).
 
3. A global decision making center
The Paris Region is ranked second in the world – just behind Tokyo – for Fortune 500 companies, ahead of London and New York. The area is home to almost all of France’s major industries, world leaders in their markets.
The Paris area is also ranked second worldwide in terms of international organizations, behind Brussels and far ahead of London and New York.
 
4. A European hub
- Exceptional infrastructure allows for convenient and efficient meetings.
- A European crossroads: the Paris area is Europe’s premier highway and rail hub, boasts Europe’s number one airport system, and ranks second in Europe for passenger traffic with more than 75 million air passengers annually.
- Outstanding internal transport connections ensure easy access to all business centers.
- Extensive accommodations and renowned hotel facilities accommodate all itineraries and agendas.
 
5. An ideal area for executives and international researchers
The Paris Region is home to as many foreign companies as London, and foreign companies located in Paris employ 542,000 people, compared to 516,000 in London. 6. One of the world’s premier R&D areas
The Paris Region is ranked first in Europe and fifth worldwide for its number of researchers – just behind Tokyo, California, Osaka, and New York, and ahead of London, Bade-Württemburg and Bavaria. In 2004, French research laboratories employed 136,000 people, 7.2% of the European Union’s research capacity.
 
7. High-tech business clusters
The Paris Region is home to ten leading European high-tech business clusters. The public sector has increased support for France’s outstanding fields, establishing a new dynamic through a national business cluster policy.
17 globally competitive business clusters rival world leaders in their strategic fields: System@tic (Complex systems), Cap Digital (Technology and digital applications), Medicen (Health) and Mov’eo (Automobile), and many more.
Others work in thriving industries such as eco-technology and sustainable development (Le Pôle VMD), aeronautics (ASTech), and financial services.
 
8. High-performance, competitive sites
The Paris Region is a European leader in business properties, with 49 million m² (530 million sq. ft.) of office space, surpassing London’s 43 million m² (463 million sq. ft.). This also includes 30 million m² (323 million sq. ft.) of business facilities and 28 million m² (300 million sq. ft.) of warehouse space.
Businesses enjoy numerous benefits, including:
- Competitive occupancy costs, particularly compared to London
- A broad selection of quality locations (the heart of historic Paris, as well as La Défense, Plaine Saint-Denis, Villes Nouvelles, Plateau de Saclay or the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport area, etc.)
- Excellent services (shared resource centers, security, inter-company food services, etc.) and advising.
